“13 Reasons Why” doesn't shy away from tackling heavy issues like bullying, rape, and suicide. But bringing such dark stories to life can take a toll on actors, which is why the cast had access to cute, cuddly therapy dogs while filming the show.
"They had therapy dogs on set," Dylan Minnette, who played Clay, told PopSugar. "There was a puppy per hour. They really tried to help out. The puppies helped." According to the Alliance of Therapy Dogs, the pups are "on a mission of sharing smiles and joy."
Dylan also acknowledged that Katherine Langford, who played Hannah, had the most intense experience of them all. "She had the brunt of the emotional stuff," he continued. "I mean, we all have very emotional parts, but this is about her character." In the same interview, Katherine acknowledged the intensity of her character's role and explained why it was so important to bring these tough scenes to life.
"We always read a new script at a table read, and once we hit episode nine, there was silence," she said. "That's when we realized what we were doing was important. That's the moment that's kind of ingrained in my head as, 'This is really important.' We cover so many intense issues. I feel like so much of Hannah's life, especially the last five episodes, is so tragic that you just have to put that shock aside and get through it. It's only been after the show and after wrapping that I've gone, wow, we really did handle some really heavy stuff. I'm really proud of how we handle it, because as you said we don't shy away from them."

Entenda o zika vírus e seus sintomas
Doença é transmitida pelo mosquito 'Aedes aegypti', o mesmo vetor da dengue e da febre chikungunya
O que é o zika?
É uma infecção causada pelo zika vírus, transmitida pelo mosquito Aedes aegypti, o mesmo transmissor da dengue e da febre chikungunya.
Posso ser contaminado se entrar em contato com alguém contaminado pelo vírus?
Não. A transmissão acontece pelo picada do mosquito, que após picar alguém contaminado, pode transportar o vírus durante toda a sua vida.
Como é o processo de transmissão?
A fêmea do mosquito deposita seus ovos em locais com água parada. Ao saírem dos ovos, as larvas vivem na água por cerca de uma semana, transformam-se em mosquitos adultos, prontos para picar as pessoas.
Quais são os sintomas?
Os maiores incômodos são febre baixa e comichão na pele, além de manchas avermelhadas. O mosquito adulto do Aedes aegypti vive em média 45 dias, e depois que a pessoa é picada leva de 3 a 12 dias para os sintomas aparecerem.
Mas zika é dengue? Qual a diferença entre um e outro?
Os sintomas do zika vírus são bastante parecidos (febre, mal-estar, dores nas articulações) com os da dengue, mas menos intensos. E, claro, o vírus da dengue não causa microcefalia.
Zika pode causar microcefalia?
Sim. Foram encontrados vírus no líquido que envolve o bebê durante a gravidez e também no líquido do sistema nervoso central dos bebês diagnosticados com microcefalia.
Como isso acontece?
O vírus invade a placenta, entra na corrente sanguínea do bebê e vai direto para o cérebro. Ali, o vírus pode provocar uma inflamação que retarda a multiplicação dos neurônios e prejudica a formação do cérebro da criança.
Existe algum tratamento para o zika? Como posso me prevenir?
Ainda não há tratamento específico para a doença, apenas para o alívio dos sintomas. Para limitar a transmissão do vírus, a pessoa deve ser mantida sob mosquiteiros durante o estado febril, para evitar que algum Aedes aegypti a pique.
Mas alguém já está pesquisando a cura para o vírus?
Claro. Alguns cientistas da Universidade do Texas estão em busca de uma vacina contra o zika.
É verdade que o vírus se espalhou pela América Latina?
Sim. Ao menos 21 países já estão contaminados. A OMS, por sua vez, estima que pelo menos 4 milhões de pessoas serão infectadas pelo zika vírus na América em 2016.
E ele pode se espalhar pelo mundo?
Sim. No dia 1º de fevereiro a Organização Mundial da Saúde (OMS) declarou emergência mundial por conta dos casos de microcefalia causados pelo zika.
