Boris Johnson should have taken his own medicine - The British prime minister tested positive for Covid-19 and went into isolation, but not before doing untold damage and setting a bad example.

Boris Johnson, the prime minister of Britain, on Friday announced that he had tested positive for the coronavirus. In a brief video released on Twitter, he shared the basics: Having developed “mild symptoms — that’s to say, a temperature and a persistent cough” — he underwent testing and received the bad news. He will now be “selfisolating” until the illness has run its course.
Looking mostly healthy, if typically disheveled, Mr. Johnson stressed that he would continue to “lead the national fightback” from his home via teleconferencing. He urged the British public to abide by the three-week lockdown put into place on Monday.
The more effectively people stick with social distancing, the faster the nation and its National Health Service (N.H.S.) will “bounce back,” he said, before closing with the plea, “Stay at home, protect the N.H.S and save lives.” It was a responsible, no- drama message. If only the prime minister had displayed such leadership sooner, he — and who knows how many others — might have been spared this illness.

Home

No one leaves
home unless home is the mouth of a shark
you only run for the border
when you see the whole city running as well
Your neighbors running faster than you
breath bloody in their throats
the boy you went to school with
who kissed you dizzy behind the old tin factory
is holding a gun bigger than his body
you only leave homewhen
home won‘t let you stay.
No one leaves home unless home chases you
fire under feet
hot blood in your belly
it‘s not something you ever thought of doing
until the blade burnt threats into
your neck
and even then you carried the anthem under
your breath
only tearing up your passport in an airport toilet
sobbing as each mouthful of paper
made it clear that you wouldn‘t be going back.
You have to understand,
that no one puts their children in a boat
unless the water is safer than the land
no one burns their palms
under trains
beneath carriages (…)

I want to go home,
but home is the mouth of a shark
home is the barrel of the gun
and no one would leave home
unless home chased you to the shore
unless home told you to quicken your legs
leave your clothes behind
crawl through the desert
wade through the oceans (…)
No one leaves home until home is a sweaty voice in your ear
saying –
leave,
run away from me now
I dont know what I‘ve become
but I know that anywhere
is safer than here.

LIVRE
Cruz e Sousa
Livre! Ser livre da matéria escrava,
Arrancar os grilhões que nos flagelam
E livre, penetrar nos Dons que selam
A alma e lhe emprestam toda a etérea lava.
Livre da humana, da terrestre bava
Dos corações daninhos que regelam,
Quando os nossos sentidos se rebelam
Contra a Infâmia bifronte que deprava.
Livre! bem livre para andar mais puro,
Mais junto à Natureza e mais seguro
Do seu Amor, de todas as justiças.
Livre! para sentir a Natureza,
para gozar, na universal Grandeza,
Fecundas e arcangélicas preguiças.

IV
Era um sonho dantesco... o tombadilho
Que das luzernas avermelha o brilho,
Em sangue a se banhar.
Tinir de ferros... estalar de açoite...
Legiões de homens negros como a noite,
Horrendos a dançar...
Negras mulheres, suspendendo às tetas
Magras crianças, cujas bocas pretas
Rega o sangue das mães:
Outras, moças, mas nuas e espantadas,
No turbilhão de espectros arrastadas,
Em ânsia e mágoa vãs!
E ri-se a orquestra irônica, estridente...
E da ronda fantástica a serpente
Faz doudas espirais...
Se o velho arqueja, se no chão resvala,
Ouvem-se gritos... o chicote estala.
E voam mais e mais...
Presa nos elos de uma só cadeia,
A multidão faminta cambaleia,
E chora e dança ali!
Um de raiva delira, outro enlouquece,
Outro, que de martírios embrutece,
Cantando, geme e ri!
No entanto o capitão manda a manobra,
E após, fitando o céu que se desdobra,
Tão puro sobre o mar,
Diz do fumo entre os densos nevoeiros:
"Vibrai rijo o chicote, marinheiros!
Fazei-os mais dançar!..."
